The CEO Sleepout has raised money to help thousands of Australians for over a decade, but it's so much more than just one night. They aim to bring an end to poverty, and this year I decided to sleep rough with other leaders in Sydney.
How did it make me feel?
I'm lost for words. Wow, what an amazing experience. Listening to the homeless people's experiences was a real eye-opener.
We were grouped and had a chance to spend some time with someone who had experienced homelessness. There are plenty of things in life we have been taking for-granted that are daily challenges for the homeless. They worry about finding somewhere to sleep, where to get their next meal, and self-worth.
Self-worth
Being homeless really has you wonder about your own self worth. Thoughts go through their head such as "why am i here, what am i doing , who would even give a damn If I wasn't here", it has several negative effects on their mental wellbeing.
Sleeping rough is hard for one night but I could only begin to imagine what that's like for the entire year, if not more.
I am so grateful for St. Vinnies for giving leaders this opportunity to contribute and to everyone who donated to support the cause.
Give back
Sometimes when life gets a bit tough we need to stop and consider others in our local and global community. Be grateful and GIVE BACK to those that need it more. Trust me, I’ll be BACK to GIVE BACK.
At IGNITE Alliance, we have a passion for the community. Our core values need us to challenge ourselves, to ask how can we add real change and value to the community that we live in. How we can give back, and how we can make a positive impact.
So please donate. We would really appreciate your support, donating even just $50 will make a massive difference to those who need it the most in our society.
